RE-BATH - home improvement
April 18, 2005

Regarding: RE-BATH 21 Overlook Drive Hamden, CT 06514 1-866-882-4968 On March 21, 2005 RE-BATH incorrectly installed a new tub-shower unit, initial cost was $3,300.00. RE-BATH said that existing drain for the old tub was corroded and needed replacement. RE-BATH replaced the tub drain, for an additional cost of $350.00. The new drain system leaked and damaged the ceiling and a light fixture in kitchen. RE-BATH is refusing to repair the damage. “Jeff” the installer insists that he wants to repair the damage, manager “Ken” is adamant about not fixing the damage.

On April 9, Jeff came to the home and repaired the plumbing, leaving a hole in the kitchen ceiling, where once we had a nice ceiling fan – light fixture. He said we should get a contractor to estimate the costs for ceiling repair (sheetrock, “popcorn” texture, paint) and we should fax the estimate to Ken. The contractor wrote an extremely reasonable estimate for $480.00.

After sending the fax on April 12, we did not hear from RE-BATH until we called on April 13. Ken immediately started to argue, insisting it was faulty existing plumbing. When I mentioned to him that RE-BATH installed the $350.00 parts that failed, he suggested that RE-BATH could fix the damage to the sheetrock, and we could have the contractor finish the job. The contractor wrote another reasonable estimate for $200.00.

On April 14, I faxed the estimate to Ken. He then called me and said that he would send a RE-BATH worker over the weekend (on the worker’s own time, because he didn’t want to pay overtime) to replace the damaged sheetrock, and that the worker would have a check in the amount of $200.00 for us to pay the contractor with. He suggested I contact the installer, Jeff, as he would do the structural (sheetrock) repairs.

I tried calling Jeff on Friday, April 15, and over the weekend. No answer. Today, April 18, after wondering what happened to the worker, I called Jeff (he finally answered his phone) and he spoke with Ken on April 15 and said that Ken told him to come by Tuesday or Wednesday later this week, and Ken never mentioned the check for $200.00. Jeff said that we should go ahead and have the contractor do the whole job as outlined in the original $480.00 estimate (which does not include replacement of a new light fixture). I said, “Put that in writing!” He said he would fax over some kind of authorization. And that’s the last we’ve heard.

The RE-BATH office in Hamden, Connecticut is managed by an unaccountable, lying, irresponsible and abrasive man named Ken. I highly recommend seeking other companies for installation of tubs and showers. Anthony Naugatuck, Connecticut Click this link to e-mail the message author: COMPLAINTS.COM_FORM_MAIL_44716#

Based upon the attitude of Re-Bath Corporate, we would expect they all are as incompetent as Re-Bath Colorado Springs. Possibly worse. But we don't know. Use them at your own risk.
