The word you want is libel, not slander. Slander is verbally making false ststements about someone; libel is using the written word. Most states now lump them together under the definition of defamation. But, the important thing is that the statements are false and that the person making them had no reason to believe that they were true. Opinion does not count as defamation except in extreme cases. We have a legitimate basis for our statements and opinions. That is not defamation.
