Victims of NorthStar
Karen & Mike

Where to begin? After we decided to move to Colorado, the next decision was what type of house and who to use as contractor. In May 2000, we spent a week in Park Couty looking around at model homes. We priced several different types and talked to several builders. In the High Country Trader, a local weekly newspaper, we saw an advertisement for NorthStar Home Sales in Florissant. We were working our way to Florissant and stopped at a CONOCO Gas Station on US Hwy 24 for gas. Turns out the station attendant was the owner of both gas stations in town and he directed us to the NorthStar Special, $500 free gas for buying a modular home, and told us where the office of NorthStar was located. On April 2, 2001, we sent him a letter about that day not realizing he was one of NorthStar's cronies.

We subsequently purchased a house from NorthStar. Was that ever a mistake.

In November 2000, we became suspicious when the house was not ready as promised (as it turned out this was a common complaint about NorthStar). After weeks of staying in the Travel Lodge in Colorado Springs, we became angry. Finally, closing was set for Friday, December 29, 2000. But, the electrician Barbara Robbins sent to wire the water pump did not do the job properly. We didn't know this and we were at Pikes Peak Title with money in hand for the closing when everyone decided to go home because of the impending 3-day weekend, postponing the closing until January 3, 2001.

We were livid when we discovered the house still did not have running water. That's when the battle began in earnest.

We started out with a fax to Monica Wasden at Rocky Mountain Construction Lending on January 5, 2001, informing her of the complications. Communications were now being done by fax and letter to leave a paper trail.

On January 8, 2001, we faxed a letter to NorthStar outlining our concerns.

On January 8, 2001, we also faxed a letter to Grand West and Kevin Marks outlining our concerns.

Not wanting to leave anyone out, on January 8, 2001 we also faxed Monica Wasden at Rocky Mountain Construction Lending outlining our concerns.

Babs didn't like the letter and told us so. On January 9, 2001, we faxed a another letter to NorthStar addressing her complaints.

Barbi wasn't taking any of this too well. On January 10, 2001, we faxed a another letter to NorthStar about the Park County records we saw.

Again, on January 10, 2001, we faxed a similar letter to Kevin Marks at Grand West.

Unlike Barbie, Grand West actually responded in writing to our fax on January 10, 2001. The response wasm't from the Grand Poo-ha, Kevin Marks but from Grasshopper, Steve Hoskins. In our opinion, it was pure garbage. Steve Hoskins laced the fax with unsupported allegations and wide-sweeping statements about how it was all our fault. Grasshopper was learning well.

On January 11, 2001, we faxed Monica Wasden of Rocky Mountain Contruction Lending. before this, we had called her, not realizing at the time that she was part of the Triangle Of Terror being inflicted upon unsuspecting home buyers.

On January 11, 2001, we also contacted Summit Crest Homes about what we felt were serious problems with the house.

On January 12, 2001, we faxed a letter to Steve Hoskins at Grand West to correct a number of his statements about our siutuation. Steve Hoskins, we later discovered, was the "inspector" used by Grand West and Rocky Mountaion Construction Lending. A somewhat "incestuous" relationship from our perspective and very likely highly unethical was well as illegal, particularly since the relationship was never disclosed to clients.

Our next communications concerning Grand West came from Michael E. Hendricks the attorney for Grand West. Seems Mr Michael E. Hendricks felt it necessary to threaten us about or web site and our alleged defamatory statements about Kevin Marks and Grand West. Michael E. Hendricks, along with Jeffrey W. Ludwig, Beth Klein and M James Zedejas, and the former Judge Plotz, all seem to hace slept through Constitutional Law 101. In our reply, dated March 15, 2001, we gave Michael E. Hendricks some questions to ask his client and then told him to kiss our ass. Like the other lawyers representing "clients" who didn't like what we said, he never followed through with litigation.

On March 16, 2001, we sent a follow-up letter to Michael E. Hendricks, who replied by telling us to leave him alone.

On January 13, 2001, we faxed a letter to NorthStar about additional problems.

We received a reply from Summit Crap Homes dated January 16, 2001. They appeared to completely miss the point. Their answer was phrased as though it was dictated by NorthStar. At this time we began calling Summit Crest by what we considered a more accurate name, Summit Crap.

On January 17, 2001, we faxed a letter to NorthStar outling the flaws in our new home. We also informed Barbara Robbins that we were offically starting a web site, www.NorthStar-Sucks.com.

We also again contacted Summit Crest Homes about what we felt were serious problems with the house. To their credit they later did send a repairman to the house and he did fix whatever we pointed out, however, that should have not been necessary. Turns out, others have related similar stories to us about how Summit Crest appears to regularly dispatch repairmen to fix problems left by NorthStar.

On January 19, 2001, Monica Wasden replied in writing to us. Note that neither she or Grand West ever say anything about thier "inspector" that might make it possible to identify the person. We did not hear again from Monica Wasden except for a threatening letter sent May 31, 2001, where we were told our web site was defamatory. Our reply, sent June 5, 2001 basically told Jeffrey W. Ludwig that we thought he was an idiot and that he and Monica Wasden could kiss our ass. We have not heard from either of them again.

On November 5, 2001, Summit Crap, through their lawyer, Beth Klein of Boulder, responded by sending us a threatening letter, which made it complete, a threatening letter from the entire group. We promply replied to Beth Klein and were not surprised to never hear from them again. Hey Beth, get in line to kiss our ass.
