Re: Lazy Girl Designs Re: Joan--About Copyright... Hello, Well, I clicked on that link and read the text. It just didn't sound like a professional writing to me, so I got curious about the entire website and click on the "home" tab at the top of the page. The ranting and raving of the person who runs the website is not the quoting of any official publications or laws. Just a bunch of companies that the they have a beef with. ( And some of their clip-art is not so very nice, either. In fact, I would say that it is almost offensive) If the person who wrote those various articles about certain companies is a lawyer, I would put him (or her) on the same level as an amublance chaser. I am sure that any legal professional that Joan would have doing research for her is on a higher caliber than the person who wrote those articles, which are basically comparable to a "smear campaign" of sorts. (maybe "flaming" would be more accurate) That said, I would say that it is more likely that her lawyer is painting a more correct picture of what is law and not the bozo who put that website together. That said, I hope that Joan knows that her patterns are loved by all who make them. I had only asked if it was allowed to donate a completed item to the silent auction because I felt that it was an item that would be desired by those who may not have the ability, or maybe the time, to create it for themself. I would never have made them to sell, per se, like to a shop or something. This was what my own interpretation of making them to sell would mean, like on a large scale. Since it was just going to be one bag, (rather than a basket), filled with related items, then donated to the auction, it was more like giving a gift to the organization, since it would just be the one bag. I was not going to receive any compensation for it, so I didn't consider it as having been sold. I equate it to baking something for a bake sale. Well, I guess I opened up a can of worms with my inquiry, which definitely was not my intention. I think that the whole topic should be dropped in the interest of doing what is right by our friend, Joan, even if she is only know to us via cyberspace.(although some folks may know her personally) After all, we know she is real, as we have seen her on T.V.
Blessings,
Cindy Lucento |
