Sense And Sensibility Board Guidelines

Hello, and welcome to the Sense and Sensibility Message Board! This board is provided by Jennie Chancey, seamstress and pattern designer for Sense and Sensibility Patterns.

In order to keep this forum friendly and focused on the purpose it was intended for, we ask that all members follow these guidelines:

1. All new members should make and introductory post. There is a forum specifically for this purpose. This helps members feel comfortable chatting with you, and helps people get to know you better.

2. Engage in polite behavior at all times.

3. Keep all posts centered on sewing and historical fashion.

4. Keep all posts, photos, links, etc. G-rated.

5. Use proper English when writing posts. (Use proper punctuation and capitalization, no text-speak, except for the occasional “LOL” or using DD or DS and the like to maintain anonymity of family members)

6. No prayer requests/religious posts, or political posts. There is a wide variety of religious and political ideologies here, and posts on these topics, without fail, cause problems.

7. No requests for charitable giving.

8. No on-site sales through this forum. Occasional off-site sales announcements are okay (for example, posting a link to your e-Bay sale of sewing/fashion related items).

9. No spamming. Spammers will be banned immediately and reported.

10. No post bumping for the sole purpose of increasing post counts.

11. No inappropriate user names. Names of this sort will result in your user account being deleted.

Feel free to contact Mrs. Chancey, or the moderators of this board if you have questions about these guidelines.

Additional information on the working of the forum:

Use of the Edit Feature:
The editing feature on this board is intended for member use to clean up minor typographical errors in posts and to add corrections or clarifications after a post has been created. The edit feature is not to be used to delete large portions of a post. It is okay to delete your post if it's the result of a mistaken log in. Also, a double post deletion is not a problem. But in the distant past, and more recently in the past month, we have had a couple of situations where someone deleted entire posts out of anger at the board or for perceived "slights".

Avatar pictures:
We also ask that if you would like to have a picture in your avatar that you make it small, approximately 100 x 100 pixels. Huge avatars mean slow loading time for some computers. Also, we ask that the pictures be family-friendly: no nudity, no suggestive poses, nothing obscene, or vulgar, or offensive.

Signature sizes:
The board software limits avatar size to help the forum load faster (images take forever to load for dial-up users), but it doesn't limit the size of your signature line. Signatures need to be regular web-standard size (which is 68 pixels tall) to help for those with slower connections. If you have a photo in your signature line, please keep it to no more than 100 pixels high (same as avatars) to help speed load time. Larger pictures of projects and such can be posted in regular threads.

U2U’s:
There is a a feature on this board called U2U. It's a private messaging feature. To access your U2U’s, click on the words "Control Panel/Options" which is in the upper right hand part of the page. Once you click on it, you will be taken to your control panel. At the top of that, there is a clickable which says, "U2U Instant Messenger". Click on that, and another window will open with your U2U for you to read new messages and send as well. The U2U screen has an inbox and an outbox. When you have a new message waiting for you, there will be a little notice at the far upper right hand part of the screen. It will say, "You have 1 new U2U message." You can click on that sentence and it will also open your U2U mailbox. To receive e-mail notification of a new U2U: The option for receiving e-mail notification is not in the U2U window, but in your control panel. If you go to "Edit Profile" the option will be there to receive email notification on new U2U's. Check the box and a notice will be sent to the email address you registered with. U2U notifications will only be sent when you are logged out of the forum.
