"Search, review and terminate counterfeit merchandise" means that Paul Szczepaniak is an internet troll who is evaluated by his performance. Performance is numbers. The more "counterfeit merchandise" that he terminates the better he looks. If he cannot find counterfeits then terminate listings for whatever he finds.

"Populate cease and desist letters" means he fills in the blanks on the form letters and sends them to the unsuspecting sellers.

"Assist paralegals" means he gets their coffee and donuts for them.

"train new research analysts" means he has been there long enough that he is above entry-level. He gets to show the newbies how to lie about counterfeits and how to try to ruin people's lives.

We are guessing that Paul Szczepaniak is the one who answers emails sent to Coach@Gibney.com. This is the email address eBay gives to the hapless victims of Gibney's Trademark Extortion Group. When someone emails him and declares the merchandise is authentic, his response:

This firm is counsel to Coach, Inc. and Coach Services, Inc. ("Coach") with respect to certain intellectual property matters.

We are in receipt of your December 19, 2010 response. Please send us a picture of the receipt for the merchandise that you offered for sale, so we may further investigate this matter.

[no name is included]

This reply is suspicious. What happened to their good faith belief that the item was counterfeit? If they were so confident that the item was counterfeit, then why are they even entertaining the idea of a receipt? Any why no name? What is Gibney hiding?

We are in receipt of your response dated December 29, 2010. Based on the pictures and descriptions of your listing, Coach experts were able to identify several inconsistencies with genuine merchandise. The specific criteria used to identify counterfeit merchandise are, however, considered confidential trade secrets by Coach. Were that information to be released publicly, it would become much more difficult for Coach to effectively identify illegal copies of their products.

Coach experts? He means "Research Analyst", not experts. The above statement is absolute - the item was counterfeit. But, he then says, well, send me a copy of the receipt and we will look closer? Does the word "scam" come to mind? We think he is involved in terminating Coach listings because Coach does not want their merchandise being sold in this manner. We have a good faith belief that Paul Szczepaniak is a liar and he knows that he is lying. Paul, does your mother know what you do for a living?
